The debut album from this Spanish band.
Senogul has quickly established themselves as one of the better new bands in the art rock genre. And I can understand why.
The band is a five piece with numerous guest musicians. The lineup is everything from piano, guitars, drums, bass, strings, flutes and woodwinds.
I am by no means a fan of those bombastic guitar walls infected instrumental albums. And this album is not one of those. Instead, we get some pretty much acoustic music with a couple of harsh guitar walls sprinkled around this seventy minutes long album.
The music is very much rooted in jazz with some nice additions of symphonic prog and Spanish folk music too. Add some post rock too and you get the full picture. The guitars are pretty jazzy and sometimes breaks into Django Reinhardt territory.
I personally feel that seventy minutes is too much of this kind of music. Less is more in cases like this. But I like what I hear here. The music is good throughout. What is missing is a great tune or four, enough to keep me interested over the whole album.
This is an album well worth checking out.
