Akt – Déntrokirtòs (2007)

The debut album from this Italian band who has chosen to offer their albums for free. Link at the bottom of this review.

Their music is based on half acoustic and electric guitars, samles, bass, keyboards and drums. That and some good vocals. Akt's music has been described as eclectic prog. That normally means lots King Crimson and Gentle Giant references. In the case of Akt.... no. Their music is very difficult to describe. But yes, it has a lot in common with King Crimson. Both their philosophy and the guitars. Some of the music on this album is also very post rock like. Other parts of this album is very Italian too. The vocals are in Italian and Akt is clearly influenced by the Rock Progressivo Italiano scene too. Add Porcupine Tree and the post millenium prog rock sound too. That probably describe this album.

The music is intriguing complex and dense. It takes a lot of strange journeys. Too many journeys for my liking. My other gripe is the lack of a killer track. There is no doubts that this is one of the better free downloads albums around. I rate it as very good and one well worth checking out. Recommended, in other words.
