Malaavia - Frammenti Compiuti (2014)

The third album from this Italian band.

I think this is my fifth attempt to review this album. A very complex album....

Malaavia is a four piece band with a setup of female Italian vocals, mandolin, guitars, keyboards, samples, bass, mandola, piano and male vocals. A complex lineup.

The first two albums were very untraditional Italian symphonic prog albums. They were based on Arabic music and also had a lot of avant-garde and Italian symphonic prog. They were two godo albums, if my memories serves me right.

Frammendit Compiuti follows in the same tradition. Very complex Italian symphonic prog with a lot of classical music and avant-garde influences. The melodies is not that easy to "get". Indeed, this is not easy listening music where the multiple layers of music almost kills each other. Perplexing, indeed.

This album is a very dense and multi-layered. It is also a very good album indeed. I like bands who really pushes  the boat out and is really progressive. Malaavi is one of these bands. This is an album who works on many different levels. But it works and I recommend this album.
