Galley Beggar - Silence And Tears (2015)

The third album from this English band.

I found it intriguing that the doom metal label Rise Above, run by Lee Dorian from Napalm Death/Cathedral had signed a folk rock band. Is folk rock the new "in" genre now ? Or is it that the band simply could not turn down this album ? Answers on a postcard, please.

Their previous two albums has been self-released and the band richly deserves a break through. Something they will get with this album, I believe.

Folk rock and female vocals. Fairport Convention springs to mind here. Pentangle too. But mostly; Fairport Convention anno their first four albums. That is also due to the Richard Thompson'esque guitars on this album. Very intriguing guitars indeed and this album must give Mr Thompson a great deal of satisfaction.

The vocalist is not Sandy Denny and the guitarist is not Richard Thompson. But they are more than adequate here. Ditto for the bassist, drummer, violinist, flautist and the backing singers. This forty minutes long album is a feast of folk music and it does not compromise at all. There is no pop music here. Just folk rock. Folk music, that is.

This is by all means a very good album. I have never heard about this band before and it is now likely that I will purchase their two previous albums too. I really like this band which is one of the top new folk rock band right now. That to my knowledge.
