Locus Amoenus - Clessidra (2013)

The debut album from this Italian band and hopefully the first of many albums.

This five piece band is not exactly a run of the mill Italian progressive rock band. The line up is saxophone, flutes, keyboards, bass, drums and Italian vocals. Which makes a bit of an interesting sound to say at least.

The saxophone is pretty high in the mix and the vocals is a bit mad. Welcome to the weird world of Locus Amoenus. And there is a whiff of avant-garde in the air, yes. Nevertheless, a lot of the music here is in the indie-rock mould. Besides of some strong Area references, there is hardly anything here which reminds me about Italian prog rock. Despite of that; the music here is Italian prog rock. The new brash wave of Italian prog rock.

The end result is a good album which is more than acceptable, this being a debut album. I am not overly happy about this album. It is nevertheless a good album and one for those into an adventure or two. O boy do you get it here.
