Grand Stand - In the Middle, On the Edge (2000)

The debut album from this Swedish band who all in all has released two albums. I reviewed their first album for ProgArchives some years ago.

The band is really a duo with keyboards, drums and synths. No guitars and no bass. No vocals either.

This is just not another mad professor with his keyboards. First of all; the drums are really both lively and good. Very good, in fact. The second point well worth making is that the keyboards sounds like Peter Banks in Genesis. And yes, the band sounds like an instrumental version of Genesis. On both their albums, in fact.

The music is good throughout and has both a lot of punch and substance. The album is at times a delightful listen. But too often, it is not. The cheese factor is also pretty high throughout this album. It is still a good album well worth checking out.
