Vitruvian Man - The Stranger Within (2012)
The debut album from this Australian band.
The band label their music as modern prog rock. Well, I got no argument with that. Peace ! Their music is performed with guitars, keyboards, male and female vocals, bass and drums.
The guitars can be a bit heavy and prog metal'ish at times. The music is very melodic at times too. There is even a ballad thrown in here. I think the label, besides of modern prog rock, is crossover prog. Most of all; the band fits nicely into the English female fronted prog rock bands scene. The likes of Touchstone, Panic Room etc etc etc. This a good scene and it is nice to see that it's influences is also stretching down to Australia. I am not sure if there is any other bands like that down under.
The music is pretty commercial and very well crafted throughout. The songs are both long and epic. I am not a fan of those guitars. The vocals are very good. Maybe they are lacking that little extra which makes the English bands such standout bands. There is no real great tracks here either. This is though a very good debut album and a very good album overall. This band deserves more attention also in these shores. I hope we will hear a lot more from this band.
