Maze Of Time - Masquerade Show (2012)

The third album from this Swedish symp prog band.

Their first two albums Tales From The Maze (2006) and Lullaby For Heroes (2008) established their formula. The formula is melodic symphonic prog with strong influences from both The Flower Kings and Genesis. Four years later, they have moved on a bit.

Their music and sound still takes a lot from The Flower Kings and has also got this Swedish symph prog sound. They have though added prog metal to the mix with a lot of typical genre defining power metal guitar riffs. They have kept on the typical symph prog keyboards sound. Bass and drums complete the picture in addition to male English vocals.

The result is a pretty heavy album with some melodic stuff inbetween. The band has ditched their 1970s affiliations and gone for this day and age.

The overall quality is good throughout. The music also sounds a bit too generic. The title track is a great track with a great melody and harmony. There are also a couple of tracks here which is barely decent. So the law of average is a good album.
