Divae - Determinazione (1995)

The one and only album from this Italian prog rock band.

We are in the middle of classic Italian symph prog land here. The instruments are Mellotron, flute, keyboards, guitars, bass and other instruments. The vocals, very good vocals, are in Italian. The sound is great on this forty-five minutes long album.

The music is mostly on the more mellow side with a lot of diversions into ELP like symphonic prog. The vocals are at times operatic. Ditto for the keyboards and guitars too. Well, majestic is the phrase I should use instead. They are aiming for the skies and succeeds in that. The melodies also has a lot of Italian rock and folk rock in them. The sound and music is very much in the vein of Banco from the glorious 1970s. There is also a lot of references to classical music on this album.

The result is a great Italian symphonic prog album. A debut album which should had heralded the beginning of something great. But that was not to be. This is in any case one of the hidden gems in the scene. One of those I do this blog for.
